Frequently asked questions

If you would like any further information about my gates then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

01

What areas do you cover?

I offer an installation service within a 30 mile radius of LA28PN.

02

Do you make bespoke gates

Yes I can make gates to any existing or new design.

03

What timber do you use?

I use Tanalised Pine or Hardwood. Tanalised pine gates are made using timber that has been treated with a preservative base coat that is applied under pressure. They will benefit from further treatment after installation.

My Hardwood gates are made from Iroko or Sapele which are naturally oily timbers that need to weather for a couple of months before they will accept a paint or stain.

04

Will my gates or posts split and move.

Splits and cracks will occcur in timber as it expands and contracts with humidity and temperature changes. Whilst these can appear quite alarming, these splits DO NOT affect the strength and durability of the gates or posts. The splits and cracks happen because timber is a natural product and is a living material and through the year the wood expands and contracts, often meaning quite large cracks appear in the hot,dry weather, and then close up in the wetter winter months. All timber whether Hardwood or Softwood may naturally move and is unavoidable.

05

Do you paint or stain the gates?

I don’t paint or stain the gates, my pine gates are supplied with a Tanalised preservative base coat but will benefit from further treatment using a stain/preservative such as Sikkens or Cuprinol.
My Hardwood gates are made from Sapele or Iroko which are naturally oily timbers that need to weather for a couple of months before they will accept a paint or stain.
